Joe steps into the role after joining the Portland team back in September 2022 and having been in post as ‘Head of School’ for the past 18 months.

Spencer Academies Trust are delighted to announce the appointment of John Sheard, as the new principal of Chellaston Fields.
Based in Chellaston, the academy first opened in September 2019 and recently celebrated the results of its first ever Ofsted inspection in which the school received a rating of “Good” across all categories.
Inspectors rated the primary academy “Good” in all areas and “Outstanding” in personal development.

Mrs Green previously served as principal at Portland Spencer Academy and executive principal within the Trust.
Spencer Academies Trust is pleased to announce that Kate Green is taking on the role of Director of Primary Education.
The building was designed by Thinking Buildings and will feature a café area, IT space and eco-friendly facilities. John Port Spencer Academy officially unveiled its new Post-16 building, designed by Thinking Buildings with support from former student Jess Moore.
The week’s itinerary included a family breakfast, disco and rocket launch. To celebrate its recent “Outstanding” Ofsted rating, Portland Spencer Academy hosted a week of exciting activities for the children and their families, including a rocket launch on Wednesday.
The Eco Club earned the award for their level of participation in the Eco Sparks programme. Sunnyside Spencer Academy was awarded the Fall 2023 Pupil Power Prize from Energy Sparks, a programme that supports schools in better monitoring their energy usage with the goal of reducing carbon emissions.
Inspectors rated the school “Outstanding” across all five categories, citing its “unwavering ambition” and “respectful relationships”.
Portland Spencer Academy has been rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted for the first time in its history, having previously held a rating of “Good”.
Robin Harrison earned the nomination and award through his long career of development and sustainability within the academy and wider Trust.
Out of over 200 nominations across eight categories, Robin Harrison, Facilities & Resources Manager at Rushcliffe Spencer Academy, has won the National School Award for Estate Management of the Year.
The school was awarded for its innovative implementation of technological resources across all areas of school activity.
Ashwood Spencer Academy was awarded the Best Use of ICT Award from Education Today.
Mrs Philbin, who hosted Tomorrow’s World and founded the TeenTech charity, brought STEM industry professionals to work with students to develop ideas for ethical innovation in technology.
Derby Moor Spencer Academy was recently visited by Maggie Philbin, OBE to launch a new TeenTethics programme under the umbrella of her charity TeenTech in order to develop ideas for ethical innovation in STEM fields.
